because not everyone can do what you can do
For those of you who don’t already know I work with the homeless. Basically I work for an agency that calls itself “transitional living” which means come here when your stable (not strung out on crack or talking to voices in your head), your rent is only $75 a week and save some money so you can get yourself back on your feet. Believe me there are a zillion other things we do but that is the main premise.
But besides the fact that my job is very rewarding, basically I can do whatever I want as long as I can justify to my boss how it will help our clients. So about a year ago I found a boyscout that would turn our concrete filled swimming pool in to a garden and then we were in charge of keeping it up. We planted in the summer and just about everything died except for the f’ing mini eggplants (which I have cooked and ruined several times wth do you even do with an entire crop of mini eggplants). So we decided to go to some free gardening class where I was definitely 30 years younger than everyone else there, and learned a few things- one being that if you live in Florida you have to grow things in the seasons that you are suppose to or else they will all die.
I am writing all this back story because look at that picture up there! The garden is doing awesome and the clients help us keep it up by weeding and watering the plants and then they get to take whatever they want to eat from it. Yesterday we bagged up 10 gallon size bags of spinach and lettuce!!! We have cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower growing too which I am happy about and the biggest plant on the left is the damn mini eggplants that won’t stop growing lol.
Also because this project went so well I convinced my boss to buy a ping pong table.
I know I won’t be at this job forever just because there isn’t much opportunity here… but it is pretty fun :)

Having one of those uncomfortable days- where nothing feels right and yet you can’t pinpoint anything wrong.
Oh well, tomorrow is a new day! And I can’t wait for my friends to come back to Florida for Christmas :)
